Islamabad, 6 June 2025: Eid ul-Adha approaches, and households prepare for traditional Qurbani rituals, Medical professionals advise the public to consume sacrificial meat with caution, particularly due to the soaring summer temperatures.
Health experts warn that overeating red meat during extremely hot weather can disrupt digestion and strain the gastrointestinal system. They urge people to maintain dietary balance by pairing meat dishes with vegetables, yogurt, and other easily digestible foods to reduce potential health complications.
“While Qurbani meat is a cultural and religious staple during Eid ul-Adha, excessive intake especially over consecutive days can lead to discomfort and digestive issues,” said Dr. Amna Malik, a nutritionist based in Lahore. “Spicy and heavily seasoned meat can increase stomach acidity and cause heartburn.”

Individuals with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease are advised to exercise particular care. Doctors emphasize that such individuals should avoid overeating and opt for grilled or lightly cooked meat rather than fried or oily preparations.
Experts also highlighted the importance of food safety. Storing Qurbani meat in the refrigerator for more than two weeks can pose health risks. “Refrigerated meat should ideally be consumed within 10 to 14 days. Beyond that, even if frozen, its quality and safety may deteriorate,” noted Dr. Malik.
