Islamabad, Aug 10, 2025: The Workers Welfare Board Sindh electric bikes initiative has been expanded to include not only women but also minority industrial laborers, as announced by the board’s Secretary Rafiq Qureshi. This progressive step aims to empower underprivileged groups within the industrial workforce, providing them with eco-friendly transportation options and enhanced welfare support.
Secretary Qureshi revealed that the board plans to allocate Rs. 3 billion towards SECP-certified Shariah-compliant Sukuk bonds to fund additional worker benefits. This investment underscores the commitment to improve the livelihood of workers through sustainable financial instruments.
In addition to the electric bike program, an annual accidental health insurance scheme will cover workers with medical benefits up to Rs. 700,000, accessible through a network of 270 hospitals nationwide.
Instead of conventional housing, the board will build fully solar-powered homes for workers, alongside solarizing the schools run under its jurisdiction. Schoolchildren will receive two sets of uniforms each year, enhancing educational support.
Qureshi also highlighted that digitization efforts across all Workers Welfare Board departments are underway to ensure transparency and equitable service delivery.
Following directives from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the death compensation has been increased from Rs. 700,000 to Rs. 1 million, and marriage grants have risen from Rs. 300,000 to Rs. 500,000.
