Islamabad, 17 May, 2025: The federal government is set to green light the long-awaited National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy in the coming week, marking a major move toward advancing eco-friendly and sustainable transportation across Pakistan.
According to officials, the Ministry of Industries confirmed that after thorough discussions with all key stakeholders, the draft has been submitted to the Prime Minister. Once approved, it will be submitted to the federal cabinet for final approval and rollout.

The proposed policy outlines an ambitious target, ensuring that more than 30% of all new vehicles sold in the country by the year 2030 will be electric.
As part of this transformation, the NEV policy includes financial reliefs, such as:
- A Rs. 50,000 subsidy for every electric motorcycle
- A Rs. 200,000 subsidy for each electric rickshaw (three-wheeler)
- An overall fund of Rs. 4 billion reserved for these subsidies
Moreover, the policy promises to support infrastructure growth by encouraging the installation of EV charging stations nationwide.

On Thursday, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan chaired a meeting with a team from COMSATS to explore advancements in electric vehicle technologies and the conversion of fuel-based bikes into electric ones.
The discussion was attended by high-ranking figures, including Secretary of Industries Saif Anjum, Executive Director of COMSATS Nafees Zakaria, and CEO of the Engineering Development Board Khuda Bakhsh Ali.
