Islamabad, 3 june 2025: Electricity Theft remains at the center of an aggressive province-wide campaign, as Punjab Police intensifies efforts to clamp down on individuals illegally tapping into the national grid.

Authorities have registered nearly 46,000 cases against those allegedly involved in power pilferage since the beginning of the year, signaling a renewed commitment to combat energy-related crimes.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, a total of 30,851 suspects have been detained in connection with electricity theft, and 28,126 charge sheets have been formally submitted for legal proceedings.

Additionally, courts have sentenced and fined 1,977 individuals found guilty of inflicting financial losses on the national exchequer.

In Lahore, enforcement measures have been particularly robust. Law enforcement has lodged 11,523 cases and apprehended 14,046 people suspected of stealing electricity.

Since the launch of this targeted operation, more than 213,000 electricity-related offenses have been recorded in the provincial capital alone, with over 191,000 arrests made.

Inspector General of Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, has directed officers to maintain momentum in the anti-theft drive. He stressed that firm and immediate action must be taken against anyone found contributing to economic sabotage through power theft.

The crackdown aims not only to hold offenders accountable but also to stabilize the energy supply and deter future violations. Officials noted that electricity theft poses a serious threat to national development, straining the power grid and undermining government revenue.

As part of the wider operation, police teams are working closely with electricity distribution companies to track illegal connections, inspect high-risk areas, and ensure that legal consequences follow swiftly for violators.

The ongoing campaign sends a strong message to offenders: there will be no leniency for those disrupting the power infrastructure. Punjab authorities have reiterated that the drive against electricity theft will continue until meaningful progress is achieved in restoring system integrity and financial accountability.
