Islamabad, Feb 4: The era of Pakistani unskilled labor dominating job markets in the UAE is rapidly coming to a close, as the nation shifts focus toward high-skilled industries. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, emphasized the growing demand for professionals in fields like accounting, IT, banking, AI, healthcare, and aviation. With the UAE’s need for highly skilled workers on the rise, there is a vast opportunity for Pakistan to upskill its workforce.
Ambassador Tirmizi pointed out that by investing in skill development, Pakistan could equip its citizens to step into high-paying roles, with salaries starting at Dh20,000 and above—significantly higher than the previous wage range of Dh1,000 and above for unskilled labor. Pakistan’s partnership with the UAE, historically built on trade, now seeks to expand into areas such as investment and long-term economic collaboration.

Tirmizi underlined that global demand for skilled workers is surging, especially in fields like IT, accounting, healthcare, and physiotherapy. With healthcare professionals, such as nurses and physiotherapists, in demand worldwide, Pakistan is poised to become a key player in meeting this need. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to launch pilot training schools in Pakistan, offering world-class aviation education at a fraction of the international cost.
Ambassador Tirmizi highlighted the significant increase in remittances from the UAE to Pakistan, which have soared by 53% in just six months, amounting to $4.5 billion. This uptick in remittances is vital for Pakistan’s economy, surpassing exports as a primary foreign exchange source. The ambassador’s goal is to reach $9 billion in remittances by the end of the fiscal year, which would be a monumental achievement for the country.
Looking ahead, Tirmizi sees a promising future for Pakistan. He envisions a stronger global presence, enhanced by tourism, higher education, and a robust economy, with the UAE continuing to play a pivotal role in this journey. This long-term vision aims to not only fulfill domestic needs but also position Pakistan as a competitive global player.
