Islamabad, July 16, 2025: Liam Dawson has been called back to England’s Test squad for the fourth Test against India replacing the injured Shoaib Bashir.
England have named Liam Dawson as a fill in for the injured Shoaib Bashir prior to the fourth Test against India, set to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford. The 35 year old left arm spinner makes a surprising return to the Test setup, highlighting his first red ball appearance in eight years.
Bashir, who impressed in England’s crowning win at Lord’s, suffered a fractured finger while fielding during the third Test and has been ruled out for the rest of the series. Dawson’s selection is seen as a reward for his exceptional domestic performance.

As a part of Hampshire, Dawson has been one of the prominent players in the County Championship, picking up 21 wickets in nine matches this season. His performances secured him the PCA Player of the Year title in 2023 and 2024.
Interestingly, Dawson’s recall has neglected Jack Leach again despite being on a central contract. Leach, once England’s go to spinner has struggled to hold his place since the emergence of Bashir and other younger options.
