Islamabad, Mar 19 2025: England’s cricket team appears determined to reverse recent trends in their encounters with India.
Ahead of the five-match Test series scheduled to begin on June 20, opener Ben Duckett conveyed strong optimism about securing a series win on home soil.
He noted that the conditions in England are uniquely suited to favor their style of play, suggesting that his team is well-prepared to counter India’s strengths.
Duckett recalled that during India’s last visit to England, the series concluded with an even 2-2 draw, while a subsequent series in 2024 saw India, led by Rohit Sharma, overpower the hosts with a 4-1 victory.
However, the cricketer expressed his belief that the dynamics could change in the forthcoming series.
He emphasized that playing in England presents different challenges compared to India’s home conditions, a factor that could enable England to gain the upper hand.
Drawing on past experiences, Duckett mentioned that he had previously encountered the likes of Jasprit Bumrah in a five-Test series. Although he acknowledged that facing Bumrah again would pose difficulties, he was confident that his familiarity with the bowler’s tactics would help him navigate the early overs effectively.
He further indicated that Mohammed Shami’s red-ball skills were similarly menacing, yet he felt prepared to face these challenges.
Duckett suggested that once he managed to settle through the initial spell, a steady flow of runs would likely follow.
The upcoming series, with fixtures at Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and Kennington Oval, promises varied pitch conditions that could test both teams’ adaptability.
England’s reliance on its seasoned opener to read and counter high-quality pace attacks is seen as a crucial element that might set the tone for the matches.
Overall, Duckett’s measured optimism reflects a broader belief within the squad that their deep understanding of local conditions can be the key to overcoming India’s potent bowling arsenal.
