ISLAMABAD, July 10, 2025 – The European Union and Pakistan have signed a €20 million grant agreement to support economic growth, improve governance, and enhance the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly those led by women.

The agreement was signed by Secretary Economic Affairs Dr. Kazim Niaz and EU Ambassador Riina Kionka under the framework of the Uraan Pakistan initiative, which aims to strengthen Pakistan’s economic and institutional landscape.

The grant falls under the “Better Governance and Business Environment” programme and focuses on:

  • Supporting women-led and export-oriented SMEs
  • Promoting green transition in businesses
  • Strengthening public-private dialogue
  • Advancing institutional and legislative reforms

Ambassador Kionka highlighted the EU’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in Pakistan, while Dr. Niaz appreciated the EU’s support in facilitating structural reforms and private sector growth.
