Islamabad, Feb 27: The European Union (EU) is set to introduce a skills development initiative in Pakistan, aimed at preparing local workers for employment opportunities in European countries. This announcement was made during the ‘Safe Migration Pathways for Aspiring Pakistani Migrants’ dialogue on Wednesday.
Philip Oliver Gross, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Pakistan, stated that European markets are experiencing a shortage of skilled labor. To bridge this gap, the EU is launching a structured training program to enhance the technical expertise of Pakistani workers.
He emphasized the importance of well-managed migration, stating that it brings economic benefits to both the host countries and the migrants. However, he acknowledged a major challenge: the mismatch between the skills required in Europe and those possessed by many Pakistani workers seeking employment abroad.

To tackle this issue, the EU is integrating Pakistan into its Talent Partnership Programme, designed to align workforce training with the needs of European employers. This initiative will focus on vocational training, skill development, and better migration governance.
The EU has committed €20 million for the period 2021-2027 to fund training programs, enhance migration policies, and support reintegration measures. These efforts will ensure that Pakistani workers are better equipped to secure jobs in European markets, ultimately fostering economic growth and improving employment prospects.
