Islamabad, June 29, 2025: In a major step toward green mobility, the federal government has announced that every fuel station in Islamabad will be equipped with EV charging stations by 2030. The initiative aims to make the capital a model city for electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan.

The decision came during the fifth session of the Steering Committee on the Electric Vehicle Policy, chaired by Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production.

Officials reviewed the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30, which focuses on reducing emissions and fossil fuel dependency. Islamabad is expected to take the lead, supported by a nationwide plan that includes the rollout of over 3,000 EV charging stations by the end of 2025. The policy also projects 2.2 million electric cars and bikes on Pakistani roads within the next five years.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Federal Board of Revenue, State Bank of Pakistan, Capital Development Authority, and other key ministries. Discussions addressed EV subsidies, vehicle inspection protocols, and battery performance in Pakistan’s climate.

Haroon Akhtar emphasized that environmental impact will be tracked using global standards. He added that carbon credit markets are being explored to support the shift to clean energy.
