Islamabad, Aug 15, 2025: Saran Valley in Mansehra, a famous tourist spot has been closed after heavy monsoon rains caused flooding and landslides in the region. The continuous rainfall led to the overflow of the Kunhar and Saran rivers, creating dangerous conditions for visitors and residents alike. Authorities have issued safety alerts, warning people to stay away from riverbanks and avoid traveling on nearby roads.

Officials confirmed the closure of Saran Valley as a precautionary measure to protect lives. The ongoing monsoon spell has brought severe destruction across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving at least 33 people dead and 25 missing in different districts.

In Bajaur’s Salarzai and Jabrayi areas, floodwaters destroyed homes and blocked access roads. Rescue teams, alongside local residents, recovered 16 bodies, while seven people remain missing. In Dir Lower’s Sori Paw area, five members of one family died when their house collapsed during the rains. Battagram was also hit hard, with 10 fatalities and 18 people still missing.

Mansehra district itself reported two deaths in the Basiyaan area after sudden floodwaters swept away a car. Landslides and damaged infrastructure have further delayed rescue efforts.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has ordered immediate relief operations, with helicopters and specialized rescue units deployed. The NDMA reports that since June 26, monsoon rains have killed 343 people nationwide and injured over 740. Authorities are urging the public to stay cautious and contact the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Helpline at 1422 in emergencies.
