Islamabad, Sep 29: FBR Income Tax Return Filing Extension Under Consideration Amid Taxpayers
The decision on the extension may be made once the Prime Minister returns home.
FBR officials indicated that they would recommend extending the filing deadline, citing that the taxation system has been overburdened during the return filing period.
As of September 28, approximately 2.9 million taxpayers had submitted their returns, compared to just 1.4 million at the same time last year.
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has requested a 30-day extension for filing income tax returns.
FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh stated that challenges in filing returns are largely due to the FBR’s defective system, which has caused delays and technical difficulties.
He emphasized the need for the FBR to focus on improving the tax system alongside implementing stricter measures.
The online filing system has its limitations and inefficiencies, making it cumbersome for ordinary taxpayers. Sheikh noted that only 2.6 million taxpayers have filed returns so far, which is disappointing.
FBR Income Tax Return Filing Extension over 844,000 new taxpayers have been added to the tax net. Sheikh believes that extending the filing deadline could potentially increase the number of return filers to seven million.
