Islamabad, Jan 1: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a significant revenue collection shortfall of Rs. 386 billion in the first six months of FY25, as per provisional figures released on Tuesday.
Key Highlights:
- Collection vs. Target: FBR collected Rs. 5,623 billion against the assigned target of Rs. 6,009 billion for the period.
- December Collection: Tax collection for December 2024 stood at Rs. 1,326 billion, falling short of the target of Rs. 1,373 billion by Rs. 47 billion.
- FY25 Target: The government had set a tax collection goal of Rs. 12,913 billion, a 40% increase from FY24.
Challenges:
Achieving the ambitious FY25 target appears increasingly difficult as the revenue collection gap widens. The shortfall signals the need for intensified measures to enhance tax compliance and broaden the tax base.
