Islamabad, Nov 29: Finance Minister Reviews 5G Launch Plans Following Feedback from U.S. Firm. The Advisory Committee on the Release of IMT Spectrum for Improvement of Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services in Pakistan met today at the Finance Division under the direction of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb.
By PPRA Rules/EPADS, the PTA hired the US-based consulting firm NERA in November 2024 to study and assess the Pakistani market, consult with stakeholders, and prepare policy recommendations regarding sector reforms and a roadmap for a successful spectrum auction by April of the following year. The meeting reviewed the progress of this work and discussed several other topics.
As a key element of the nation’s economic transition, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the significance of the digital economy and digital integration. According to him, the government is committed to improving digital infrastructure and connectivity to guarantee widespread adoption of new digital technologies and creative applications for cross-sector socioeconomic development, economic activity transformation, and the accomplishment of sustainable development goals.
Senior officials from relevant ministries and departments attended the meeting, along with Minister of Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja (virtual), Chairman of the PTA, Secretary of the Ministry of Information Technology, and Secretary of the Ministry of Law.
