Islamabad, June 25, 2025: The City Traffic Police Lahore is launching a strict crackdown this week against vehicles displaying fake, fancy, or non-standard number plates. The operation aims to bring uniformity in traffic regulation and curb the growing use of illegal license plates across the city.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed has ordered a three-day awareness campaign prior to initiating legal action. The campaign, which started Tuesday, is focused on educating motorists about the risks and legal consequences of using unauthorized number plates.

Starting Friday, strict action will be taken against violators. “We will begin registering FIRs against individuals using fake or tampered number plates,” stated CTO Waheed. “The grace period is only to give citizens a final chance to comply before the law is enforced.”

The crackdown will also extend to manufacturers and suppliers of fake or altered number plates. Authorities have warned that anyone involved in the production or distribution of non-approved plates will face legal consequences.

Fake Number Plates a Growing Threat in Lahore

The increasing number of vehicles using tampered plates to avoid e-challans has become a significant concern for law enforcement agencies. Officials emphasize that altering number plates is a criminal act and will not be taken lightly.

“We’re not just going after the drivers,” CTO Waheed emphasized. “This is a citywide operation targeting both users and suppliers of illegal number plates.”

What Citizens Must Do to Avoid FIRs

The Traffic Police have urged all vehicle owners in Lahore to install officially issued, standard number plates immediately. Those found non-compliant after the awareness campaign ends will face penalties, legal action, and potential arrests.

This citywide enforcement aims to support fair implementation of traffic laws and ensure better security monitoring on roads.

This crackdown on fake number plates in Lahore is a critical step toward improving traffic management and public safety. Citizens are advised to act now to avoid FIRs, fines, and possible vehicle seizure.
