Islamabad, 12 Apr, 2025: In preparation for the vibrant Baisakhi festival, the district administration of Nankana Sahib has officially announced a Five-Day School Holiday, allowing educational institutions to remain closed from April 12 to April 16.
This proactive step has been taken to accommodate the large number of Sikh devotees arriving from across the border to celebrate the religious event with traditional fervor.
The Five-Day School Holiday aims to streamline festival arrangements while prioritizing public safety.
The break will be observed by all schools and colleges throughout the district, as stated in the formal government notification.

The main celebration is set for April 14, and extensive arrangements are currently in progress to ensure a well-managed and peaceful event for local residents and international pilgrims alike.
The temporary closure of schools is part of a broader administrative strategy to support efficient crowd management and ensure a secure environment for the thousands of guests expected during the religious festival.
Authorities have reinforced their security blueprint, which includes deploying over 2,000 police personnel to key locations throughout the area, according to the District Police Officer’s plan.
Each year, under the bilateral agreement between Pakistan and India for religious tourism, up to 3,000 Sikh pilgrims are permitted entry for events such as Baisakhi.
However, this year has seen an overwhelming response, with more than 7,000 devotees expressing interest in visiting. The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi has received multiple requests for additional visas to accommodate this surge.
With such a high turnout anticipated, the decision to suspend academic activities is aimed at minimizing road congestion and creating space for safer and more organized festival logistics.
Local authorities have also intensified efforts to maintain law and order, ensure medical assistance availability, and streamline hospitality services for incoming pilgrims.

The Baisakhi festival holds immense religious and cultural significance for the Sikh community, commemorating the founding of the Khalsa in 1699.
Nankana Sahib, being the birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, draws international attention during such spiritual occasions.
By granting this holiday period, the district not only honors the importance of Baisakhi but also fosters interfaith harmony and strengthens Pakistan’s image as a respectful host of diverse cultural traditions.
