Islamabad, July 19, 2025: Five private firms have come forward with proposed routes for a newly planned ferry service linking Gwadar to Gulf countries. This was shared during a top-level meeting held on Friday, led by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.

Earlier on July 1, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs had announced a plan to boost Gwadar Port’s operations. The new steps include adding shipping lines and starting a ferry service that would connect Pakistan with countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The five companies have submitted detailed proposals which include plans for how the ferry service would operate, the routes it would follow, and how the project would be financed. If approved, the ferry service will offer a low-cost and practical way to travel and move goods between Pakistan and the Gulf region.

The Minister said the service will make travel between Pakistan and Gulf nations easier. He also said that the plan could make Gwadar an important link for regional trade and boost the country economy over time.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that each of the five proposals will be carefully considered.

The ferry service, once operational is expected to bring new opportunities for trade and travel. It could also bring more attention to Gwadar Port as a key player in regional maritime activity.

Work will now continue to assess all aspects of the proposals, with a focus on safety, planning, and smooth coordination between departments. The government hopes this project will open new doors for growth and improve Pakistan’s links with its neighboring countries.
