Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday warned that the NDMA has projected that eight to 11 lac cusecs of floodwater could enter Sindh, raising serious concerns for residents.
Speaking to the media after a detailed river situation briefing, CM Shah said, “If water levels rise above nine lac cusecs at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, the province could face a super flood.”
He added that the irrigation department has been instructed to remain fully prepared for the impending flood. “The massive water flow will submerge katcha areas,” Murad Ali Shah said. “Our top priority is to protect human and livestock lives. We have 192 boats ready for evacuation, and citizens are urged to cooperate with authorities.”
During the briefing, the chief minister was informed that heavy machinery and manpower have been mobilized at vulnerable embankments. Critical points on the right bank of the river between Guddu and Sukkur, including Left Marginal Bund, KK Bund, KK Feeder Bund, New Ghorghat ex-Bund, Old Tori Bund, and SB Bund, have been closely monitored.
Similarly, sensitive areas on the left bank of the Indus, such as Qadirpur Shank Bund, Qadir Loop Bund, Rownti Bund, Baiji Bund, and RN Bund, are under continuous surveillance, CM Shah added.
He emphasized that six locations between Guddu and Sukkur, which have previously faced breaches, require special attention. “The KK Bund section is particularly dangerous on the right bank. Should water reach eight to nine lac cusecs, the Shank Bund may not withstand it. Saving this embankment will be our main focus,” the chief minister noted.
