India has once again released a large volume of water into the Sutlej River, raising fears of another wave of flooding in Pakistan. Authorities have issued a high flood alert downstream of Harike and Ferozepur barrages, with the Indian High Commission formally notifying Islamabad about the situation.
The Ministry of Water Resources has also warned provincial governments and relevant departments to stay prepared for emergency measures.
This is the second alert in two days regarding India’s water release into the Sutlej River. The powerful flood stream, after submerging parts of central Punjab, is now sweeping through the southern region and heading toward Sindh. Officials confirmed that the flow will advance from the Punjnad Headworks to the Guddu Barrage, posing further risks of inundation in downstream areas.
