The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert in Punjab as water levels in the Sutlej River continue to rise dangerously at Harike and Ferozepur. Officials have warned that downstream districts could face serious threats, urging immediate safety measures.
According to the Pakistan Commission for Indus Water (PCIW), the Sutlej River reached a high flood level at 8:00 am on 1st September 2025. The warning has been communicated to divisional and district administrations across Lahore, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions, as well as Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Lodhran, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffargarh districts.
Emergency Directives Issued
The PDMA has instructed all administrations to:
- Keep District Emergency Operation Centers (DEOCs) operational 24/7.
- Strengthen embankments and flood protection structures.
- Deploy Rescue 1122 teams and additional staff in vulnerable areas.
- Ensure timely alerts and evacuation announcements through media.
- Set up relief camps with food, clean drinking water, and medical facilities.
- Relocate livestock to safer locations with proper veterinary support.
Authorities have also been told to stockpile medicines, food hampers, and arrange transportation for people in flood-prone regions. Heavy machinery has been placed at critical points to manage potential breaches and restore affected routes.
PDMA’s Call for Vigilance
The PDMA emphasized that collective efforts are essential to minimize the disaster’s impact. Citizens have been urged to remain cautious, follow safety advisories, and cooperate with rescue teams. Regular Situation Reports (SITREPs) will be shared to keep track of developments.
