The historic Major Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, one of the most sacred Sikh places of worship has been submerged in the rampaging floodwaters following the water Releases by India to the rivers flowing towards Pakistan. Locally, the Gurdwara has been surrounded by water that flowed around the complex thus flooding it along with its walls as the Sikhs worldwide express their fears.

The Punjab has experienced rampant destruction with agricultural land being washed away, roads and bridges breaking apart and thousands of families displaced. Together with increasing water levels, officials warn that the Kartarpur Corridor and the surrounding settlements may be put under further threat, which will have long-term repercussions in infrastructure and livelihoods.

Sikh Community Requests to take action immediately

The locals and Sikh faithful have implored upon the Pakistan government and overseas aid agencies to come to the rescue to save the Major Gurdwara immediately. The increased fears have arose because of weather forecasts warning increased rain which can aggravate the situation of flood in the area.
