Islamabad, Mar 11 2025: Shahid Afridi has claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi admitted to having limited knowledge about cricket.
Speaking to media, Afridi revealed that while Naqvi had undertaken positive initiatives, he advised him to consult experienced professionals rather than relying on bureaucrats.
Naqvi, who also serves as Interior Minister and previously held the role of caretaker chief minister in the province of Punjab, assumed charge of PCB last year.
His tenure has been marked by challenges, including early exits from both the 2024 T20 World Cup and the upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy, where they were the defending champions.
Despite investing heavily in stadium renovations in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi, the performance of the national team has raised serious concerns.
Afridi acknowledged his efforts, particularly in stadium improvements, but emphasized the need for a more technically sound team at PCB.
He expressed concerns about non-cricketers holding key positions in the selection committee and domestic cricket management, questioning their ability to make informed decisions about the sport.
He further stated that Naqvi assured him of discussions on his suggestions. However, Afridi clarified that he was not seeking a PCB role but rather aimed to contribute towards developing young cricketers at the grassroots level.
He stressed that the cricketing future of the Pakistan depended on strengthening domestic structures and instilling the right mindset in emerging players.
