A former ICC match referee has made surprising claims about his time overseeing international cricket matches. He said that during one match he was told to go easy on the Indian cricket team when they were behind on over rate. According to him he received a call advising him to be lenient because the team involved was India.

He explained that India was several overs behind the required rate and normally this situation leads to fines or penalties. However he said that instead of applying the usual rules he was asked to give more time and avoid strict action.

The referee did not mention the exact match but he shared that the incident took place when Sourav Ganguly was the captain of India. He also said this was not the only time he noticed special treatment and that decisions in some cases were influenced by internal politics within cricket administration. He described his experience by saying that the job of match referee changed over the years. In his view the decisions sometimes depended on the importance of the team and the pressure around the match.

Why These Claims Matter

These claims have raised questions about fairness in international cricket. The ICC is expected to make decisions based on rules and neutrality. If certain teams are treated differently based on reputation or influence it affects the spirit of the game.

Fans players and officials expect equality in every match. If the rules are not applied fairly the trust in the game can be damaged.
