Islamabad, June 25, 2025: Tragedy struck the Pewar Sharm Khel area of Upper Kurram on Sunday when a deadly landmine explosion claimed the lives of four individuals and left four others seriously injured. The blast has once again highlighted the lurking dangers in Pakistan’s tribal belt, where such incidents remain a grim reminder of past conflicts.
District Police Officer (DPO) Habibullah confirmed the casualties, stating that the blast occurred in a remote area known for its rugged terrain. The injured were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.
Following the incident, security forces swiftly cordoned off the affected region and launched a comprehensive search operation to uncover any additional explosive devices that may be hidden underground.
Authorities suspect that remnants of past militant activity may still be buried across the region, posing a continuing threat to civilians. The DPO warned locals to remain cautious and report any suspicious objects or disturbances immediately.
Upper Kurram, located near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, has long been affected by landmines and unexploded ordnance, especially in areas once used as militant strongholds. While the security situation has improved over recent years, isolated incidents like today’s blast raise serious concerns over demining efforts and public safety.
This latest landmine explosion in Upper Kurram underscores the urgent need for comprehensive clearance operations and increased community awareness to prevent further loss of innocent lives
