The Sindh government has launched an initiative to provide free solar panels in Sindh for households consuming up to 100 electricity units per month, aiming to reduce rising energy costs and promote clean power solutions for low-income families. This program is part of the government’s long-term vision to shift towards sustainable and affordable energy.

The Sindh Energy Department is currently accepting applications from eligible citizens. Families that meet the electricity consumption criteria can apply and benefit from this opportunity. According to official figures, 200,000 households are set to receive solar panels under this scheme. So far, more than 77,000 families have already been provided with solar systems, while the remaining 123,000 will be accommodated in the next phase.

If applications exceed the allocated 123,000 units, a computerized lottery will be conducted to ensure fair distribution among applicants. This transparent method guarantees that every qualified family has an equal chance to receive solar energy benefits.

Sindh’s Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, emphasized that the provincial government is fully committed to ensuring affordable and environment-friendly energy access. Speaking at a recent ceremony at the Energy Department, where advanced solar inverters, lithium battery systems, and solar panels were showcased, he highlighted that such projects are vital for long-term energy stability.

The minister also noted that Sindh had established its first power plant through a Public-Private Partnership. The electricity generated by this plant is being supplied via the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) at lower costs, ensuring more reliable distribution across the province.
