Islamabad, Jan 25: A severe cold wave continues to sweep across Pakistan, with freezing temperatures disrupting daily life in multiple regions. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the federal capital, Islamabad, experienced a biting low of 0°C today, bringing frosty mornings and freezing nights to the city.
Chilly Conditions Across Major Cities
Other major urban centers also endured cold weather, with Lahore recording 7°C, Karachi 12°C, and Peshawar 5°C. Meanwhile, northern regions witnessed some of the most extreme conditions, as Leh plunged to a record-breaking -13°C, followed by Astore at -11°C and Gupis at -9°C.
Tourist destinations like Skardu and Kalam recorded frigid lows of -8°C, while Quetta experienced -4°C. In Hunza and Bagrot, the mercury dropped to -5°C, with Parachinar settling at -3°C.

Freezing Temperatures in Murree and Azad Kashmir
Murree, a popular hill station, recorded -1°C, adding to the chill for tourists and locals alike. In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad stood at 3°C, while Gilgit reported -2°C.
Extreme Cold in Indian-Administered Kashmir
Across the border, Indian-administered Kashmir also reeled under freezing temperatures. Srinagar and Baramulla dropped to -4°C, Pulwama and Anantnag hit -5°C, while Shopian recorded -3°C.
Precautionary Measures Issued
The PMD has urged residents to take necessary precautions, particularly in the northern areas where temperatures remain well below freezing. Authorities have also advised travelers to exercise caution on icy roads to avoid accidents during this cold spell.
