ISLAMABAD, AUGUST 2: Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, was slain, and his funeral prayers were performed at the Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque in Qatar on Friday. The political leader of the Palestinian party, Haniyeh, had lived in Doha with other Hamas political office members.
Leader of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh will be laid to rest in a cemetery in Lusail, which is located north of the capital of Qatar.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards stated that Ismail Haniyeh and a bodyguard perished in the early-morning raid on their Tehran lodging on Wednesday.
He had gone to Iran to see President Masoud Pezeshkian’s inauguration on Tuesday. Israel hasn’t addressed the incident directly, despite being blamed for it by Iran, Hamas, and other groups.
The Hamas leader’s martyrdom occurred just hours after Israel killed Fuad Shukr, the military chief of Hezbollah, a Lebanese organization that is associated with Hamas, in an attack on a southern Beirut neighborhood.
The executions are the most recent in a string of events that have heightened tensions in the area amid the Gaza War and attracted extremist organizations sponsored by Iran in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen.
On Thursday, large numbers Iranian mourners attended Haniyeh’s public burial ritual in Tehran to offer their condolences. After threatening to exact “harsh punishment” for Haniyeh’s death, Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, conducted prayers in his honor.
