Islamabad 10 August: A worsening food crisis in Gaza has claimed more lives as the Israeli military blockade continues to choke the flow of humanitarian aid, local health authorities and aid agencies reported on Sunday.

Health officials in the enclave said several children and elderly people have died in recent days from severe malnutrition and related illnesses, with hospitals warning they are running out of basic medical supplies. “We are receiving more patients every day suffering from acute hunger and dehydration, and we can no longer provide adequate treatment,” said a doctor at Gaza’s largest hospital.

As of August 7, 2025, the Gaza Health Ministry reports that at least 61,258 people have been killed in Gaza, including 18,430 children. Additionally, 152,045 people have been injured since the start of the conflict in October 2023.

The blockade, enforced by the Israeli army, has severely restricted the entry of food, medicine, and fuel, leaving aid trucks stranded at border crossings for weeks. Humanitarian groups say their warehouses are empty, while bakeries and markets face unprecedented shortages.

The United Nations has called for urgent action, warning that famine is imminent if restrictions are not eased. “The deliberate obstruction of food supplies is a violation of international humanitarian law,” a UN spokesperson said, urging immediate safe passage for aid convoys.

The crisis has drawn global condemnation, with rights groups accusing Israel of using starvation as a weapon of war — a charge Israeli officials deny, citing security concerns for maintaining the blockade.
