Islamabad, 11 June 2025: The German Embassy in Islamabad has introduced a streamlined, fully digital system for employment visa applications, marking a significant departure from its previous process.

Beginning 16 June 2025, all new visa requests must be submitted via the Consular Services Portal, part of Germany’s wider effort to modernize its visa issuance framework.

This development was confirmed by German Ambassador Alfred Grannas, who emphasized that the transition aims to accelerate processing times and expand the overall volume of employment visas issued to Pakistani applicants.

As part of this overhaul, all pre-existing waiting lists have now been closed and will be permanently deleted, although individuals with already confirmed appointments may still attend as scheduled.

Moving forward, prospective applicants are required to register and submit their applications exclusively through the official digital platform at digital.diplo.de/visa. Those who were previously waiting for an appointment but had not secured one must now reapply under the updated procedure.

The embassy’s decision reflects Berlin’s increasing reliance on digital diplomacy tools to enhance efficiency and transparency in visa operations.

It is hoped that the new portal will help address longstanding delays and make the process more user-friendly for skilled professionals seeking opportunities in Germany.

This shift comes as part of Germany’s broader efforts to attract international talent and support its labor market demands, especially in sectors facing acute workforce shortages.
