Trophy hunting auction for year 2025-26 has set new record in Gilgit-Baltistan. The bid reached $370,000 (more than Rs. 100 million) for the Astore Markhor of Nanga Parbat region against the base price of $200,000.
The Parks and Wildlife Department organized an auction event for wild animals as part of the Trophy Hunting Season 2025–26, which was attended by domestic and international outfitters associated with hunting, as well as multiple representatives from community-controlled areas in Gilgit-Baltistan.
During the event, animals from community-controlled hunting areas in Gilgit-Baltistan were offered for hunting, including Pakistan’s national animal, the Markhor, as well as the Ibex and Blue Sheep, which were auctioned.

The Ibex was auctioned for approximately $14,000, while blue sheep around $30,000.
Last year forest and wildlife department failed to attract hunters and highest bid for Markhor just hit $160,000 while the lowest of four markhor permits for this year reached $240,000.
The trophy hunting in Gilgit Baltistan was introduced in early 90’s as a community-controlled program. The 80% revenue from hunting is bagged by community while 20% is share of Govt.
Each year Gilgit Baltistan offers 118 wildlife animals for hunting before hunters which include 4 Markhor, 100 ibex and 14 blue sheep.
