SAMARKAND: The IV Samarkand Forum on Human Rights is set to convene in Uzbekistan on June 13-14, 2024, focusing on the theme “Climate Change and Human Rights.” Three plenary meetings will take place both offline and online during the forum.
The primary objective of this year’s Samarkand forum is to address the broad-scale impact of climate change on human rights through information analysis. Participants will not only acquire essential knowledge in this area but also have the opportunity to exchange experiences and explore best practices within the international community.
The Forum aims to formulate concrete recommendations and solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on human rights. Discussions will serve as a platform for experts from various fields to develop effective strategies and approaches that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and safeguarding the rights of all individuals amidst a changing climate.
The National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the “Strategy of Development” center are the national organizers of the forum.
International partners include the United Nations team in Uzbekistan, the Office of the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Uzbekistan, the Regional Office of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia, the United Nations Development Program Office in Uzbekistan, and the Office of the Coordinator of Projects in Uzbekistan of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Additionally, the Friedrich Ebert and Konrad Adenauer foundations have representative offices in the country.
The forum is expected to host 200 experts, including national and international experts, climate specialists, government officials responsible for climate change matters, civil society organizations, media outlets, research institutions, businesses, and representatives from international organizations.
