Islamabad, July 27, 2025: In a major step to support Pakistan’s economic growth, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the immediate continuation of the Workers’ Remittances Incentive Scheme, reinforcing the government’s commitment to overseas Pakistanis who play a vital role in the country’s development.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz emphasized the urgent release of funds for the scheme by the Ministry of Finance. “Overseas Pakistanis are the backbone of our economy. Their sacrifices and remittances are deeply respected and highly valued,” the premier stated.
According to official figures, remittances of overseas Pakistanis reached a record $38.3 billion during the fiscal year 2025 — the highest in the nation’s history. This record-breaking inflow helped the country achieve a current account surplus for the first time in 14 years, significantly strengthening Pakistan’s foreign reserves and easing pressure on the import bill.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the government is actively working to modernize the remittance system. “We are introducing reforms that will make sending money home easier, faster, and more secure for our overseas workforce and business community,” he said.
