Islamabad, Dec 22: The government of Pakistan has taken a firm stance against its citizens involved in criminal activities abroad, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with significant action taken by deactivating the passports of 4,700 Pakistani nationals currently imprisoned in the UAE.
According to official sources cited by ARY News, this measure follows detailed reports from UAE authorities, revealing that 5,292 Pakistani citizens are serving sentences for various offenses. Among them, 2,470 individuals were convicted for drug-related crimes, while 100 were involved in fraud, deception, and sexual harassment cases.
In addition to these, 704 Pakistanis incarcerated for theft and 216 for serious crimes such as murder and robbery had their passports revoked. Another 375 Pakistani nationals residing unlawfully in the UAE also had their passports invalidated. This action underscores Pakistan’s commitment to addressing the legal and social implications of its citizens’ criminal activities abroad.
