Islamabad, Nov 15: A new deadline has been set by the federal government to block unlawful virtual private networks (VPNs) nationwide. In a statement, the Interior Ministry claimed that terrorists are increasingly using VPNs to support financial transactions and violent acts in Pakistan.
Recently, it has come to light that terrorists use virtual private networks (VPNs) to obfuscate and hide their communications. According to the ministry, VPNs are also being used to covertly view blasphemous and pornographic information.
Although it is noted that Pakistan is among the top nations for utilizing VPNs to access pornographic websites, these trends call for the outlawing of unapproved VPNs in order to mitigate the serious risks.
Therefore, in order to protect legitimate and registered VPN users, it is urged that illegal VPNs be blocked throughout Pakistan. Additionally, VPNs may be registered with PTA up until November 30, 2024. The ministry also mentioned this problem with the Competent Authority’s clearance.
