The advisory committee meeting on the “Release of International Mobile Telephony (IMT) Spectrum for Improvement of Next Generation Mobile Broadband Services in Pakistan” was presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday at the Finance Division.The deadline for submitting bids to hire the process consultant is July 15, 2024.
The finance minister was briefed on the strategic plans for the distribution and use of the IMT spectrum by the major players in the telecommunications industry and the regulatory bodies. The release of this spectrum is anticipated to greatly increase internet speeds, improve connectivity, and satisfy the growing demand for high-quality data services, as was previously noted.
During the meeting, topics including the auction procedure, technical requirements, and the release schedule for the spectrum were covered. The future directions for advancing technology and fostering an atmosphere that encourages investment and expansion in the telecoms industry were also deliberated by the Advisory Committee. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, the Minister of State for IT and Telecom, the Chairman of PTA, and senior representatives from pertinent ministries and departments were present at the meeting.
