Islamabad, Nov 3: Dr Gohar Ejaz, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Commerce and Chairman of the FPCEO Pakistan Economic Revival and Growth Think Tank, said this on Saturday calling for the same for PIA to open bidding amongst the five same groups.
He was speaking to the press with VP and Regional Chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry FPCCI Zaki Aijaz, and former Caretaker Provincial Minister for Commerce & Trade SM Tanveer.
They asked the government to involve FPCCI in the formulation of economic policies, they said collectively we can turn Pakistan into an economic giant.
The former caretaker provincial minister for commerce and trade SM Tanveer has spoken about IPPs, high interest rates.
He appealed the government to declare package for winter.
and power tariff for industries should be at Rs 20 per unit electricity.
They said that without such measures industries may degenerate into what has been termed as “graveyards”.
They also spoke of cutting the interest rate further, with no exceptions.
The FPCCI officials urged the government to slash
the rate right away to 12.5 percent and further cut it to 5 percent by end of December 2024.
They pointed out that regional interest rates are now in single digit,
while Pakistan’s rate is in double digit and much higher.
They pointed out that if the agriculture and manufacturing sectors are deemed successful,
the service sectors will similarly improve, and the government should form a task force for these sectors.
They included such hopes as to state that with proper approaches,
Pakistan could be the fifth largest economy within certain years.
They also briefed their opinion concerning the present economic policies of the country and stated
that stable polices are required for expot to grow by 10 % per year,
The export of worth $ 5 billion after five years.
Some of them scowled at the policy of devaluation of the national currency as an unproductive approach.
