Islamabad, 13 June 2025: New Gas Connections are set to be rolled out to more than 116,000 consumers across Pakistan in the upcoming financial year, as the government pushes forward with expansion plans despite ongoing shortfalls in domestic natural gas reserves.
Official budget documents reveal that authorities are targeting the issuance of 115,530 new residential gas connections. In addition, the government aims to extend services to 550 commercial clients and 350 industrial users nationwide.
The regional allocation plan indicates that 85,740 new gas connections will be introduced in Sindh and Balochistan, while the remaining 30,530 connections are reserved for Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the distribution strategy, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is responsible for facilitating 30,530 connections in its jurisdiction. Meanwhile, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will oversee the deployment of 85,740 connections within its service areas.
Compared to the current fiscal year where the revised target stood at just 20,061 new connections this upcoming plan marks a considerable increase, signaling a shift in policy towards greater energy accessibility.
The bold expansion reflects the administration’s resolve to improve infrastructure, particularly in regions that have historically faced energy supply challenges.
Despite prevailing gas shortages, the push for New Gas Connections demonstrates a broader effort to bridge the energy access gap for both households and businesses.
Observers note that while supply limitations remain a concern, the scale of the initiative signals the government’s intent to prioritize long-term distribution improvements.

Energy sector analysts see the New Gas Connections initiative as both ambitious and necessary, given the growing demand from underserved areas.
They caution, however, that implementation will require close coordination with supply agencies and infrastructure upgrades to ensure sustainability.
