Islamabad, July 18, 2025: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has instructed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to speed up five major highway projects, including M-6, M-10, and the Naran-Kaghan route. He gave these instructions during a top-level meeting on infrastructure development.
The NHA will spend Rs. 150 billion this fiscal year from its own funds to move forward with new road projects. Out of this, Rs. 100 billion has been allocated towards the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman (N-25) highway in Balochistan, which is set to begin soon.
Aleem Khan emphasized that all upcoming motorway project should have at least six lanes to handle long-term traffic and ensure smooth travel. He also confirmed the government commitment to execute highway projects using a public-private partnership model to attract private investment.
He pointed out that the NHA’s increasing income is a clear indication that it’s time to deliver real results. Priority schemes are anticipated to reach up to 90% completion by the end of the year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the finished sections once important targets are met.
All pending plans for Gilgit-Baltistan were also given the green light. The minister urged fair progress in all provinces and said that each area’s needs must be considered when choosing new projects.
The Lahore-Kasur road project was clearly stated to have no link to Raiwind, putting an end to recent worries.
