Islamabad, June 15, 2025: The federal government has announced a big increase in petrol and diesel prices for the last half of the fiscal year 2024-25.
Petrol will now cost Rs. 258.43 per liter, up by Rs. 4.80. Diesel price has gone up by Rs. 7.95 and will be Rs. 262.59 per liter. These new prices will start from June 16, 2025.
In the previous price review, petrol price was raised by Rs. 1 per liter, while diesel price stayed the same.
The government does not charge general sales tax (GST) on petrol and diesel. But it collects nearly Rs. 94 per liter through other taxes. This includes a Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) of Rs. 78.02 on petrol and Rs. 77.01 on diesel, plus Rs. 16 per liter customs duty on both fuels.
Apart from taxes, Rs. 17 per liter goes to oil companies and dealers as their share for distributing and selling the fuel.
