Islamabad, 13 May, 2025: In a collaborative effort to enhance environmental sustainability and promote economic opportunities, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan held a high-level meeting to initiate a joint commercial fruit tree plantation project along Pakistan’s motorways and highways.
The project is designed to implement area-specific, climate-appropriate fruit tree plantation using a lease-based model during the first three years.
This model allows private sector involvement without financial liability to the government.The initiative aims to increase green cover, generate income, and reduce the country’s carbon footprint.

Dr. Malik highlighted the significance of inter-ministerial cooperation and assured full technical and institutional backing from his ministry, including support for carbon credit generation.
To ensure swift execution, he instructed the creation of a dedicated strike team within 72 hours to develop a detailed implementation roadmap and establish a system for calculating carbon credits and monitoring emissions.

Also in attendance were Chairman of the National Highway Authority Muhammad Shehryar Sultan and Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police B.A. Nasir, both of whom pledged full support for the initiative.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovative and sustainable climate actions through strategic partnerships and efficient implementation.
