Islamabad, Jan 23: The government has initiated a significant restructuring process with the planned closure of the Utility Stores Corporation (USC), a decision finalized by the federal cabinet. To ensure a seamless transition, a dedicated committee of seven members has been established, chaired by the Federal Minister for Industries and Production.
This pivotal committee is composed of influential figures, including the Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, the Minister of State for IT & Telecom, along with key secretaries from the Finance, Privatization, Benazir Income Support Program, and Industries and Production departments.
A formal notification from the Cabinet Division has set forth the committee’s Terms of Reference (ToRs), mandating the expedited cessation of USC operations. Tasked with a stringent timeline, the committee is required to compile and present a comprehensive report detailing the closure procedure within just one week of its formation.
In preparation for this transition, the committee’s responsibilities extend beyond mere procedural formalities. A critical focus will be placed on the strategic reassignment of USC’s workforce. Employees are to be systematically relocated, either integrated into a surplus pool or repositioned within existing vacancies across various federal government bodies.

This move aims to minimize disruption to the lives of the corporation’s workforce while ensuring that their expertise is retained within the public sector.
Moreover, the committee is charged with the meticulous management of USC’s extensive assets and properties throughout the privatization phase. This involves formulating robust safeguards to protect these valuable resources, thereby securing the financial and operational integrity of the transition.
This strategic closure, handled with such structured precision, underscores the government’s commitment to efficiency and responsible governance, reflecting a broader agenda of streamlining state operations and enhancing public service delivery.
