Islamabad, July 8, 2025: The federal cabinet has revoked its June 2024 verdict to limit yearly board honorariums for government officials at Rs. 1 million following widespread disregard.

The Finance Division released an official notification this month, scrapping the policy from the beginning after a Cabinet Division directive dated June 22, 2025.

The initial limit, spearheaded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, required government officers to deposit additional board remunerations into the national exchequer. However, most bureaucrats did not comply with the order.

Certain organizations, such as PARCO and PTCL, offer as much as Rs. 1.4 million per sitting, while others provide between Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 250,000 per session.

The finance ministry also canceled its previous circular implementing the cap. As the policy could not be enforced, the cabinet annulled the decision entirely as though it had never existed.
