Islamabad, 23 May 2025: Road worthiness Test measures have officially begun in Lahore as part of a major push to curb air pollution and protect public health.
The Punjab Environment Protection Department (EPD) has introduced compulsory emissions testing for vehicles across the city to address the rising concern over toxic air quality, primarily linked to unchecked vehicular smoke.
Free Inspections for a Limited Time
To encourage widespread public cooperation, the provincial government is providing free emissions checks for an entire month.
This move, aimed at promoting eco-conscious behaviour, allows residents to assess their vehicles without incurring any expense.

Testing Points Established Citywide
As part of the Road worthiness Test programme, nine inspection booths have been installed at high-traffic locations across Lahore.
These include sites such as Istanbul Chowk on Mall Road, Liberty Roundabout in Gulberg, Emporium Mall in Johar Town, and others in DHA, Wapda Town, Shahdara, Wahga Town, Lake City, and Kahna.
Each booth is outfitted with modern diagnostic tools to ensure fast and reliable results. The goal is to make emissions testing accessible for every motorist, regardless of where they reside within the city.
Public Guidance and Heatwave Adjustments
Due to the ongoing heatwave, the EPD has revised operating hours at these stations to make the process more manageable for the public.
Citizens have been advised to stay informed via the official Green Punjab mobile app or by dialling the EPD helpline (1373) for real-time support.

The Road worthiness Test system plays a key role in detecting vehicles that discharge harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particles.
