Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the immediate suspension of electricity bill collection for August in flood-affected regions.

The decision was taken on Saturday during a high-level meeting chaired by the premier to review billing issues in flood-hit areas.

He instructed power distribution companies to implement the relief measure without delay as part of broader efforts to ease hardships for affected citizens.

In a bid to ease the hardship of millions affected by the recent floods, the government has also approached the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approval to defer collection of electricity bills for three months in flood hit areas.
