The Finance Division has put forward a major proposal for federal employees, recommending an 85% uniform increase in the monthly rental ceiling across all categories of staff.
According to officials, the Ministry of Housing and Works had earlier proposed different slabs of increase for four categories of employees, ranging between 60% and 100%.
The ministry suggested a 100% raise for employees in grades 1 to 10, a 75% increase for those in grades 11 to 16, a 65% rise for officers in grades 17 to 19, and a 60% increase for officers in grades 20 to 22.
However, the Finance Division has formally communicated in writing to the Ministry of Housing and Works that it favors a uniform 85% hike for all categories instead of varying percentages. Officials said the ministry will now forward a summary on the matter to the federal cabinet for approval.

The rental ceiling issue has faced long delays, with three separate market surveys conducted to assess housing costs in Islamabad and other cities.
