Islamabad, Aug 5, 2025: In a major push to formalize IT exports and streamline remittances, Pakistan’s IT industry stakeholders have recommended the government introduce a new version of the Roshan Digital Account, titled RDA 2.0. This enhanced digital banking solution is expected to simplify financial processes for freelancers and IT companies, transforming unofficial dollar inflows into documented remittances.
The proposed RDA 2.0 will be designed specifically for the technology sector, enabling users to access advanced features such as an automated verification system and support from a central representative body. Account holders will benefit from USD-based interest income, dollar retention, smooth repatriation of funds, and secure encashment, encouraging reinvestment in Pakistan’s digital economy.
Just like the original RDA, the new version will offer additional perks including international debit and credit card facilities, online banking tools, and a seamless user experience. The idea behind RDA 2.0 is to give IT exporters and freelancers the confidence to operate transparently while growing their earnings through legal channels.
This proposal was brought forward during a high-level meeting organized by the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT). Key figures in attendance included Federal Minister Shaza Fatima, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and CEOs of Ignite, PSEB, and PAFLA.

Discussions also focused on tracking the number of IT professionals and recent tech graduates across Pakistan to better estimate the potential reach of the new scheme.
Since its launch in 2020, the original Roshan Digital Account has been a game-changer, connecting overseas Pakistanis with local banking and investment channels. To date, more than 831,000 accounts have been opened, attracting over $10.3 billion in foreign inflows, as of June 2025.

With RDA 2.0, Pakistan aims to replicate this success in the booming freelance and IT export market by offering modern, accessible, and compliant banking solutions that meet the needs of the digital workforce.
