Islamabad, 20 March 2025: Grant Bradburn received a suspended £500 fine, a formal reprimand, and a caution after an investigation into allegedly racist and sexist remarks.
The Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) report detailed three allegations against him, all of which the 58-year-old coach admitted to.
According to The Guardian, he claimed that cricket selections in Pakistan were based on friendships, family ties, or random choices.
“He made comments that, in cricket selection decisions in Pakistan, they would pick their friends and cousins or pick their names out of a hat,” the report stated.
Before joining Glamorgan in January 2024, Bradburn had served as the head coach for the Pakistan national cricket team in 2023.
Another claim stated that he questioned players of Asian heritage about their “Cricinfo age,” implying doubts about the accuracy of their reported ages.
A third allegation related to remarks made during training sessions, where he reportedly compared the intensity of male players to that of Western Storm, a women’s cricket team.
This comment was seen as undermining the efforts of female cricketers.
Following the Cricket Regulator’s disciplinary process, Bradburn was dismissed as Glamorgan’s head coach in December after the allegations surfaced.
CDC adjudicator Tim O’Gorman stated that while the remarks had discriminatory connotations, there was no evidence of malicious intent.
He added that Bradburn had fully cooperated with the investigation, never denied making the statements, and had sincerely apologised for any offence caused.
Bradburn must complete an education programme on discrimination, with his fine suspended for a year unless he reoffends.
Glamorgan Cricket CEO Dan Cherry welcomed the decision, reaffirming the club’s zero-tolerance policy on discrimination.
He stressed the importance of fostering an inclusive environment and praised the internal reporting system that allowed concerns to be raised.
Bradburn has yet to make a public statement on the ruling.
