The Deputy Commissioner of Gujrat, Nur-ul-Ain Qureshi, has issued an urgent directive aimed at preventing the spread of human-borne diseases in flood-affected areas of the district. These unregulated activities have raised serious public health concerns, especially in vulnerable areas impacted by recent floods.

Invoking Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. 1898 (Punjab Amendment) Act, 2024, the Deputy Commissioner has enforced a restriction that mandates only designated officials from the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) and the District Health Authority (DHA), Gujrat, to distribute edible goods. These items, including water and food, may only be handed out after receiving proper safety clearance from the relevant authorities. This ensures that all consumables meet health and hygiene standards.

The order specifically prohibits the distribution of cooked or uncooked food, hampers, drinking water, milk, or any other consumable item without explicit written approval from either the PFA or DHA. This preventive action aims to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks caused by contaminated or unsafe food. The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force for a one-month period, from August 29 to September 27, 2025.
To ensure wide public awareness and compliance, the order will be published in the official gazette, printed in daily newspapers, and broadcast via electronic and print media. Copies of the directive have also been forwarded to key officials and departments, including the Home Department in Lahore, the Commissioner of Gujranwala Division, the Regional Police Officer, and the District Police Officer of Gujrat. The move highlights the district administration’s serious commitment to maintaining public health and safety during the flood recovery period.
