Islamabad, 17 Apr 2025: In a transformative step towards coastal revitalization, Pakistan has taken a major leap by aligning with China to establish a High-Tech Aquaculture Industry in Gwadar, under an integrated Maritime Development Plan
The initiative was presented during a strategic session between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Professor Yu Bo, Chairman of China Overseas Ports Holding Company.
The detailed proposal outlined by the Chinese delegation aims to turn Gwadar into a major global hub for sustainable seafood farming, processing, and exports.

The initiative is expected to revolutionize Pakistan’s marine economy by tapping into the rich aquatic resources along the Balochistan coastline.
Leveraging Gwadar’s Marine Wealth for Economic Uplift
Minister Chaudhry hailed the project as a game-changer for the country’s coastal belt, expressing confidence in its ability to generate thousands of employment opportunities, attract foreign investment, and provide a stable source of income for local communities.
He emphasized that the High-Tech Aquaculture Industry will not only serve economic interests but also uplift communities that have long remained underserved.
Infrastructure Boost and Policy Alignment
In support of the broader Maritime Development Plan, the minister reaffirmed the government’s pledge to ensure essential infrastructures as reliable power supply, access to clean water, and improved road networks is made available to support Gwadar’s industrial growth.
He pointed out that the unique geography of Gwadar, with its favorable sea temperatures and proximity to global shipping lanes, makes it an ideal location for aquaculture ventures.
The development of advanced hatcheries, seafood processing plants, and modern marine farms will significantly increase Pakistan’s seafood exports, he added.
Commitment to Sustainability and Regional Growth
Both parties agreed to devise a collaborative policy framework and a time-bound implementation strategy, involving experts and relevant government institutions.
This alliance underscores a shared dedication to environmentally conscious development, long-term sustainability, and the economic empowerment of coastal populations.
