Islamabad, Mar 10, 2025: Harry Brook has opted to pull out of the 2025 IPL, marking the second consecutive season he has withdrawn from the competition.
This decision could subject the English cricketer to a two-year ban from future IPL editions, as per a new regulation introduced ahead of the 2025 auction.
Sources confirmed that ECB officials informed the BCCI last week about the move, which was relayed to Delhi Capitals, who bought him for INR 6.25 crore (£590,000).
The right-handed batter shared the news on social media, expressing the need to “recharge after the busiest period in my career to date.”
Brook said the decision, though difficult, was made with guidance from trusted advisors, prioritizing preparation for upcoming England series.
His remarks suggested that workload management, particularly given his ongoing ECB contract, played a role in his IPL exit.
The new IPL rule mandates a two-year ban for players who make themselves unavailable after being auctioned, unless due to injury.
His withdrawal follows his 2024 absence for family matters, leaving Delhi Capitals to find a replacement ahead of the 2025 season.
